Accomplish Your Work With Task Zero

July 5, 2011

Task Zero ($1.99) by haha Interactive presents a sleek interface to mitigate the dullness of performing tasks.

The App Store certainly has a large selection of time management tools, ranging from free to somewhat costly. However, the majority of them don’t look much different than the iPhone’s settings menu. Enter Task Zero, which separates itself from the pack by featuring graphics that compliment the app’s functionality.

The interface looks like it was inspired by "Tron: Legacy." Starting the app for the first time shows a blue mechanical iris turning to unlock the load screen behind it. Most of the app, with the exception of the help menu, shows some subtle animation in the background. Every button push includes a beeping sound.

You can create as many tasks as you’d like, with the option of naming and color-coding them. Tasks can be re-ordered in your work flow or passed over to a new task while in progress. While the task is running, a timer with 30 increments ticks along, adding to the visual appeal.

Once your tasks are done your work flow can be saved, to archive your progress, or be added to at a later time.

While the app provides basic icons to depict features, and has a help menu, the app is not as straightforward as the developers think it is.

The flow rate and success rate measures are not immediately apparent. Push notifications would also be helpful, especially if you need your iPhone for other tasks. The timer ceases the moment you leave the app for another one.

Those who have workflows to complete or need to log time on a project would certainly appreciate this app. Functionally, it could just have been a simple menu interface, but the developers added pleasing graphics and sounds that acknowledge a selection being made. The animations are subtle enough that they don’t become a visual distraction.

Work may not be fun, but you can at least make it a little more palatable.
