QuickAdvice - Top Camera Could Replace Many Of Your Photo Apps - And You Could Win A Copy!

Top Camera ($0.99) by Lucky Clan is a cool new app from the developers of popular art app ArtStudio. With an attractive user interface and tons of great features, this app may convince you to dump a slew of other photography apps. Top Camera helps you take better photos, edit them, add effects, and share your results.

So, let’s start with the camera features. It has just about all the features I’ve seen in other camera-replacement apps, and more. Stabilizer, timer, burst mode, zoom slider, auto white balance, whole-screen button, grid, virtual horizon/level, exposure box and focus box. Additionally, there is an HDR mode that is superior to the HDR mode of the native camera. In fact, it is comparable to apps like Pro HDR. It has both an auto and a manual setting. The only thing it lacks is the ability to merge two photos from your photo library. In other words, you must shoot the photos within the app to use this HDR feature.

Photos you take within Top Camera can be saved automatically or you can set the app to only save the ones you want. Organize your photos into folders - this is a great feature not found in many photo apps. You can share or export (to photo library, clipboard, email, Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr) your photos. You can also import photos from your library if you wish to edit them. Which brings us to the editing features...

Crop your photos in free mode, keep the ratio, make a perfect square, or pre-select a certain ratio such as 2x3, 3x4, and many more. Rotate and flip your photos. Make adjustments such as brightness, contrast, saturation, tint, shadows, temperature, and highlights with sliders. Add fun filter effects such as color boost, colorify, grunge, antique, retro black & white, and lots more. You can even see the effect in a thumbnail before you choose it. You can also add a variety of borders, including a host of vignette styles. If I had to find a negative, it’s that once you have edited a photo, there isn’t an easy way to compare it to the original. Still, this is an excellent app.

With so many features, many apps feel cluttered or confusing. I think they did a great job making this UI clean and easy to use. The developers have already submitted an update for approval. This update includes faster loading and saving as well as "Slow Shutter" mode, with auto/manual/light-trail options. And, I am told are already working on another update, which will include Dropbox integration and, the developer tells me, “one feature that will be unique for all camera apps, I cannot talk about it now.”
