Quirky App Of The Day: Woodoo Pocket Kit
by Kathryn Zane

I really don't have anything bright or witty to open this app review with. Normally, that might be a bad thing, but this time, it's a compliment. Woodoo Pocket Kit is just a great app for helping me to release some tension at the end of the day. I think I've made it clear that I have a satisfying twinge of glee at seeing a bit of blood from apps. Not a blood bath. Well, except for that one, but the rest are fairly low-key. Woodoo Pocket Kit features realistic dolls with cute buggy eyes that you get to poke with needles for a satiating little blob of blood at the end.
Before writing this column, I'm sure that I looked like fairly normal person. I'm completely aware that writing about these apps day in and day out is making me look like some sort of sadist. I promise that there are people who would be shocked that this is the sort of thing that I have on my iPhone. I wish my mom might be more surprised, but as reviewed in previous posts, she's unfortunately on to me. I think I'm adopted.
Anyway, the nature of this column just brings out this one side of me as a person. It also reminds me that everyone has stress. It's an inherent part of life. Some of these quirky apps deal with releasing stress in humorous ways that make me giggle while showing blood, guts, and glory. There's no reason why I can't laugh while I poke and cause a bleed-out in my doll.
Isn't that part of the fun in stress relief? This is so ridiculous that I can't take it seriously. No matter how angry I might be that my newspaper got soaked in a puddle, I'm not going to stand over it with push-pins trying to find where a newspaper might house its soul so I can deliver some pain. Well, if I want to be known as a crazy person I can, but I'm pushing my luck with staving off that title with these reviews to begin with.
There are only a few apps that when I play them, I think, "Wow, this has got to stay on my phone." This is one of them. It's simple, it's fun, it's a little bloody, but best of all, it's free. So, there's no harm in downloading it for your creepy, eerie pleasure. Woodoo Pocket Kit allows users to make a doll from a picture from the camera roll, take a picture in-app, or make a fully customized doll. My only wish, and may it come in the update, is to be able to save it for later use so I don't have to keep loading or customizing. You can email, Tweet, or upload to Facebook your little voodoo doll for the admiration/creepy horror of your friends and family. However, if you've friended your grandma, you may want to pass. She might not understand.
WooDoo Pocket Kit is available at iTunes for the awesome price of FREE!
