King of Fighters is a series of games dating back to the 90s arcade machines and SNK video game systems. The series has a hardcore following of fighting fans that can compare to a series like Street Fighter. SNK has just released an entry in this series for the iPhone called The King of Fighters-i.
What makes this entry a great one to for both veterans and modern fighting-game fans is that this isn't a port, but a new game. According to TheSixthAxis, King of Fighters-i is based on The King of Fighters XIII, which is the latest game in the series.
The controls consist of a virtual stick for movement and virtual buttons for various actions and attacks. There are also several special moves available, as the series is known for various button combinations unique to each character in the game. However, the iPhone entry also has a specials button to ease new players into these complex attacks and make the game more casual.
Many of the trademark characters are included, like Kyo Kusanagi and Billy Kane, with a total of 14 fighters to choose from. The game also features four unique game modes that consist of: team battle, single battle, endless, and training. Team battle is another trademark of the series. Being able to pick two fighters and switch them during battle against rival opponents allows for some nice strategies that can be utilized by experienced players. It also makes the action very fast paced and exciting.
Look for The King of Fighters-i on the App Store for iPhone at a price of $7.99.
