TUI Stopper ($0.99) by Schwa Techno Solutions is a utility app that lets you lock up your contacts so that you don’t make a fool of yourself by sending a forlorn text to your ex-girlfriend after knocking back six shots of whiskey.
By selecting certain contacts from your address book before you hit the clubs, you can eliminate the late night drunk texts or phone calls (you can still send emails, so you’re not totally safe) to an unwary receiver. When you open the app it will show the contacts from your iPhone’s address book. From here you can select as many names as you'd like to lock for the night. If you want to avoid accidently telling your boss how much you hate him for not giving you a raise, you can lock his and all of your co-worker’s numbers, just to be safe. You never know which office friend will be the office blabbermouth on Monday morning.
Once you have picked the potential drunk text recipients, you can set a specific time for which you will not be able to see their contact information. If you know you will be raising a ruckus all night, you can set it for six hours. If you are spending the weekend in Las Vegas, go ahead and set it for 24 hours. After you have hidden the selected contacts, you can access them through an emergency unlock if, for any reason, you feel you need to talk to them in your drunken stupor (maybe to pick you up from jail). Otherwise, you will not see their names again until the time is up.
You have to keep the app running in the background in order for it to work. I’m not sure how much this will reduce your battery life over an extended period of time, but the app doesn’t seem to need a lot of memory, so it is probably a minimal drain. It also doesn’t actually hide contacts listed as favorites. It will hide the name, but the person’s phone number is still listed.
Overall, this is a clever idea for anyone that has a bad habit of calling or texting people after knocking a few back. It is easy to use and works exactly as designed. Isn’t $0.99 worth the cost of not losing your job on Monday?
