Tactile Feedback Controller Now Available For iPhone Gamers

July 12, 2011
According to TouchArcade, the tactile control attachment for the iPhone, called iControlPad, is now shipping to those who pre-ordered the device starting a few months ago. With the iCade making a splash for iPad owners, the iControlPad looks to do the same for owners of the smaller iDevices. "The device works like the iCade by emulating a Bluetooth keyboard. This should make it easy for developers to add support for the add-on device," TouchArcade reports. You can order the iControlPad directly from the creators' website at a price of $69.99/£43.42/E48.99 for the whole package needed to connect to an iDevice. Besides the iPhone 4, the attachment supports a number of other devices, including the iPod touch. Here is the list of supported devices (taken from the iControlPad website):
iPhone 3 ,iPhone 3G, iPhone, iPhone 3GS, iPhone4, iPod touch (some require padding), Motorola Backflip (needs padding), LG Optimus S, LG Ally, Blackberry Touch, Samsung Intercept (may require adjustment), HTC Dream, T-Mobile G1, Era G1.
Here is the list of emulators (mostly jailbroken) the attachment supports (also taken from the site):
Megadrive/Genesis - MD.emu (iOS, Android), SNES - SNES.emu, SNESoid (iOS, Android), DOS - iDOS, DOSpad (iOS) Amiga - iAmiga (iOS), C64 - iC64 (iOS), PCEngine - PCE.emu (Android, iOS), NES - NES.emu, NESoid (Android, iOS) Gameboy - GBC.emu, GBCoid (Andorid, iOS), N64 - N64oid (Android), MSX - MSX.emu (Android, iOS) & more!
Official App Store apps should also be supported in due time, according to a blog post from iControlPad's site:
Besides Manomios emulators, some more apps are currently being updated supporting the iControlPad. One of the developers asked Apple if it is okay if he adds support for the iCP into his app and they replied that this is fine as long as it uses their official BT Stack as well the app features touchscreen-support as well. This is some great news, as it opens the door for officially available games to support the iControlPad!
The price is a bit steep and how useful this turns out remains to be seen (mostly due to software support unknowns). If you are huge on emulation, though, it may offer what you're looking for.
