Why Is Apple Advertising A 3G iPod Touch?

July 26, 2011
First we heard rumors the next iPod touch would be available in white. Now, in plain sight, Apple is fueling another rumor about the next generation iDevice. In news first uncovered by the iDownloadBlog, Apple clearly shows a 3G-iPod touch via its iTunes page. Of course, this is pretty surprising since an iDevice such as this does not exist. If you go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/, (yes, the photo is still there) you can clearly see an iPod touch that includes a 3G icon and signal strength in the status bar.

While Apple isn’t known for offering hints about its future products (especially on its own webpages), this does make you wonder what’s going on. Plus, as iDownloadBlog contends:
At any rate, if you didn’t believe Apple would release a 3G-capable iPod touch, this finding and the fact that Apple has added cellular toggles for the iPod touch in iOS 5 beta 4 are probably the most concrete evidence you’ll find to date.
First released in 2007, a fifth-generation iPod touch is expected to arrive sometime before the end of the year along with the iPhone 5. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
