Cave has just released (to the iPhone) a port of the Japanese arcade game and full-blown Xbox 360 title, called Deathsmiles. The game is a horizontal side-scrolling shoot-em-up (shump for short) with gameplay consisting of dodging bullets and shooting at enemy ships.
If you are familiar with games like Gradius or R-Type, you should know what to expect from the gameplay. However, you do not control a ship in this game, but various female characters in human form who are flying about in space and shooting at strange enemies. Deathsmiles also has a gothic theme and visual style which gives it a unique flavor for this genre.
The game is a great addition for arcade gamers who own an iPhone, because its entry price point is much lower than the Xbox 360 version that still retails for around $20-$30. If you enjoy shooters and anime-style characters, you should find the game a blast.
The iPhone version includes an exclusive mode with a new character and storyline as well.
Deathsmiles is currently available on iPhone for $4.99.
