Latest SDK Sheds More Light On iOS 5 Siri Integration

August 15, 2011
You may have heard about Apple integrating voice recognition technology and Siri-like assistive features in iOS 5. While Apple will most likely only unveil this new feature at the combined iOS 5 and iPhone 5 launch, everyone has been very curious about what it will actually do. Well, 9to5mac has done some additional digging in the iOS SDK and found yet another round of clues to help us figure out what the feature will allow you to do. According to what appear to be some header files left in the SDK, the integration's central feature will be to allow you to interact with the iPhone's core capabilities, such as handling contacts, calendars and opening links: Of course, we're hoping that what was found is only a small subset of the feature's capabilities, and it won't be just a simple additional "accessibility option." As you might remember, Siri's original app offered (and still does) much more. Furthermore, 9to5mac believes that, based on what they found in the SDK, the extent of Nuance's implication in the iOS 5 assistant feature will be limited to the speech-to-text recognition, and that the rest of the data finding and processing will be done by Apple. This doesn't come, however, as much of a surprise. What else would you like iOS 5 to do with your commands? Tell us in the comments!
