Don't Like A Billboard Ad? Just Scrub It Away

Don't Like A Billboard Ad? Just Scrub It Away

August 2, 2011
Imagine walking down a street and seeing a billboard ad that makes your skin crawl. When once you might have turned the other way, now you can virtually eliminate the ad with your iPhone. This is the idea behind a new anti-Billboard campaign happening in New York City, according to news first reported by Tuaw. PublicAdCampaign and The Heavy Projects are the folks behind a new ad-scrubbing feature being tested in the augmented reality browser, junaio. The feature, which is being tested with select billboards in Time Square, allow you to replace ads with art from indie artists and activists such as Ron English, John Fekner, PosterBoy, Doctor D and Ox. According to Tuaw, this is being done “so you never have to look at an ad in public space again.” Take a look at this video:

What an interesting concept, don't you think? Hopefully, we'll be able to do something like this everywhere someday soon.
