iOS 5 Brings Early Earthquake Warnings To Japanese Users
August 22, 2011
Following the dramatic events that affected Japan earlier this year, Apple has put together a wonderful new feature in the japanese version of iOS 5 that will show incredibly valuable for keeping people safe.
Indeed, Apple has built a dedicated early earthquake warning alert system in the iOS 5 notification center as discovered by 9to5mac. Available only to Japanese users, it allows your iPhone to tap into the national warning system and let people know about a potential earthquake up to two minutes before it happens. As you might have heard, Japan has one of the most sophisticated network of captors in the world to help detect earthquakes and hopefully, the iPhone will make this data even more valuable by bringing it to every one's pocket.
Of course, this isn't completely new as there were already some apps, as well as other manufacturers, that already allowed this, but this should probably show more reliable. The only downside is that this constant connection might affect your battery, but hey, it's worth it.
Lets hope that eventually, this will be a standard feature in iOS all over the world and help keep people safe from tsunamis, earthquakes or any other natural disasters.
