Let Your Guild Keep You Company When You're Out On The Road
August 11, 2011
TeamSpeak, the popular computer-based chat program, finally has a native (and universal!) iOS app. While it requires the latest version of the buddy software -- TeamSpeak 3 -- the iDevice iteration connects users cross-platform to any TeamSpeak server running on Mac, Windows, or Linux machines.
Used primarily for gaming, the service also has a dedicated following among friends, family, and coworker groups. However, for those actively engaged in online games (or working near a desktop computer), the app has its limitations; and users are better served by logging in on their faster, more stationary machines. The aim of the app, then, is mostly to keep VG jockeys connected to their clans and guilds while on the go, so -- even when they're not actually playing -- they can discuss strategies, plan meets and raids, or just shoot the breeze.
Other features include push-to-talk, voice activation, administrator functionality, text message capabilities, ID and contact management, detailed channel and player information, and status notifications.
TeamSpeak for iOS is available on iTunes for $4.99, and current ratings suggest it's worth every penny.
