Nexercise App Rewards You When You Hit The Gym
August 30, 2011
Would freebies help you shed a few pounds at the gym? Now your iOS device can help, with the free app Nexercise, by Nexercise Inc. The goal is for these rewards to lead to long-term lifestyle changes.
Nexercise will track your exercise activities, such as running, yard work, weight lifting, dancing and several others. You will earn points for the length of your workout and other positive exercise routines. There are opportunities for earning bonus points for different behaviors such as working out on a rainy day, or with a friend.
The exercise activity must last at least 15 minutes in order to earn points. You can win free merchandise, as Nexercise has partnered with Kiip; a company that provides rewards for virtual achievements. Prizes range from $5 coupons for items such as energy bars, to $250 gift cards.
"We're trying to create a lifestyle - not a quick fix," said Benjamin Young, the co-founder of Nexercise. "We don't focus on how many miles you ran or how many pounds you've lifted. You get points in the game for healthy behaviors."
Social networking is integrated into the app, so you can invite your Facebook friends and earn bonus points. You can also share your success on Facebook and Twitter, so your friends can see your progress and help hold you accountable.
Since the app is new, it is not perfect yet. Currently, the app cannot run in the background, so it has to always be be open. Nexercise is looking to solve this issue with an update this fall.
If you are motivated by freebies such as merchandise and gift cards, Nexercise might be worth the download, especially for a healthier lifestyle!
