Characters such as Bloody Mary, ghosts, and even the devil all make an appearance in this app’s collection. As if the stories weren’t gruesome enough, each one is accompanied by an eerie cover picture. The app is rated 12+, which I think is a fair rating. This is certainly not one for the kiddies.
The stories all have a familiar hint of yarns spun around campfires, though they’ll still keep you guessing until the end. Each story is credited for the state it hails from or its original source. Who wrote the finished product? There is no direct mention of any of the authors, which would be a welcome addition in a future update.
While the look of the app is great, the navigation is not as intuitive as it should be. Each story is brought up by swiping, but in order to actually read them, you need to hit the “read more” button.
It took a moment for me to realize this, since touching the story’s picture would seem the natural choice. How do you leave the story? The read more button, of course!
As if that button wasn’t straightforward enough, there is also a “more” button right next to it. This cumbersome button has two purposes: add a story to your favorites within the app, and it links to non-related apps (classics such as “Weed Yo Screen Free,” and “Icon Skins Free”).
This app would do well with an update that fixes some of the bugs (hitting the “back” button in some of the stories will crash the app), and the interface could do with some user friendliness.
However, the app’s main appeal is its stories, and they don’t disappoint. Some horror short stories cost $0.99, but with this app you get 60 for the same price.
