Drift Off Into Dreams With Dozzzer
Dozzzer - Music to drift off ($0.99) by Lukas Burgstaller is an app for those that like to go to sleep with their music.
Let's face it -- sleeping can be a tough thing to do, and sometimes we just need a kind of "sleeping aid" to help us with it. For a lot of people, that answer is probably music.
Dozzzer is a simple, yet beautiful, app that will allow you to select some music to listen to as you doze off into dreamland. The interface is dark, which is great because in pitch-black darkness, having a bright interface is the worst thing ever (you know what I mean). The visuals in Dozzzer are subtle too, giving it an overall soft touch, which I like.
To start using the app, Dozzzer will draw from your iPod music library. You will have to manually select music to play, which is done by tapping on that "Select Music" button. You can then browse your music by song, album, artist, playlist, or even add podcasts if they're available on your device.
Once your music is selected, you'll have to adjust the timer at the top -- this is for how long your music will play before the app fades out and stops playing. Simply drag the needle anywhere from zero minutes to 90 minutes.
By default, you won't see the actual amount of minutes, but you can go to the app settings to display the minutes as you drag the needle. I found this to be useful, but I guess if you're just putting it on to help you sleep, it doesn't require precision, right?
As you have everything set the way you want it, it's time to start the music. Simply hit the Play button and put your phone down and relax. For convenience, there are also forward/previous buttons to navigate your playlist, as well as a Shuffle and Repeat button at the top. A volume slider is found at the bottom.
Once the timer is up, the music will fade out and stop playing. By that time, you should be asleep already so you don't need to worry about a thing.
The other option in the app's settings is a "Long Fade" option. What this does is make the music fade out over the entire time that the music is playing. Otherwise, it will only fade out in the last five minutes.
AirPlay is supported, as is background audio.
I did encounter a bit of an annoying problem when I had the Long Fade option on. When I would exit the app and have it run in the background as I do other things on my iPhone, the volume popup (when you hit the volume buttons up or down) kept popping up every couple of seconds. It would only stop when I go back into the app itself. I'm not sure why this is, but it was really annoying. Hopefully this can be fixed.
I found Dozzzer to be quite pleasant to use to go to sleep. Of course, it helps out if you have music on your device that will actually help you go to sleep, rather than rock out or sing along.
If you like to go to sleep with your music but always forget to have it stop playing, then Dozzzer is for you. It's simple, beautiful, and works well overall.
