The app features a fly gallery, encyclopedia, art of fly dressing, and even a quiz.
In the gallery you can access the numerous flies by category. Details of the fly’s materials are provided by selecting the inspector icon. The encyclopedia includes parts of a fly, a history of fly fishing, and more information about fly making materials.
All of the text in this app feels wordy and lumped together, making reading it a test of endurance. Shorter paragraphs and indenting would be a nice addition for the overall dry text.
The overall look of the app serves it well. Carved wood borders frame worn-looking paper, while brightly colored flies serve as a contrast.
The quiz offers three categories to test your knowledge of fly fishing. Each quiz asks five questions, though they are the same each time. You can view the answers at the end, with a green happy face for correct answers and a red sad face for incorrect ones. Whether or not you answered correctly, an explanation can be found under each answer.
If you are into fly fishing, or want to get into it, this app would make a handy reference.
The price is quite steep, though. In terms of performance, the app crashes at random times, though mostly when scrolling or switching between features. Reopening it works, even if it is annoying.
But then, I suppose fly fishing is all about patience, anyway.
