Win Ten Oscars To Reign Supreme In The Trivia Game, Name That Movie
Name That Movie for iPhone ($2.99) by Dash Technologies brings us an interesting take on movie trivia in a pretty flashy iOS app. But do the flashy animations and game show aesthetics give you the most bang for your buck?
The goal of this trivia game is to win yourself some Oscars -- 10 Oscars, to be exact. This, however, is not as simple as it sounds. You have to answer five questions correctly in a row, just to win one Oscar. I'm not very good at math, but that's a lot of answers you're expected to get right.
You have nine seconds to guess the movie as the curtains slowly pull apart to reveal cover art. Seeing just a sliver sometimes just isn't enough to go on, but you better be quick.
But wait, it gets harder! Once you manage to win five or more Oscars, you then only have about five or six seconds to guess the movie name.
You can choose a specific genre in the settings, or just choose all to get a good variety of movies. They have all the genres, though, so if you think you're better off guessing only comedies, the option is there.
The game has cool animations and sound effects, but overall the graphics are not very impressive. In fact, the game seemed to lag a bit on my iPhone.
This game is available on both the iPad and the iPhone, but not as a universal app. Each copy will cost you a whopping $2.99, totaling $5.98 if you want a copy of each.
Although this is a neat take on movie trivia — and some movie buffs or trivia buffs may like it — I don't feel it's worth the price. If they made it universal, maybe then it would be worth the $2.99 price tag. But right now, with the minor lag and redundant gameplay, I'd at least wait for a sale.
