Space Ship Ion Takes Galaga To The Next Level
Space Ship Ion ($1.99) by iniGames sets you on a solo mission against an alien horde of bugs. Lots and lots of bugs.
This Galaga-like game comes complete with a storyline and a heavy arsenal of powerful guns to get the job done. Your ship, the SSI-Mark I, can be controlled via tilting your iDevice or touching the screen. Movement is not restricted to just left or right, as forward and backward are possible as well.
Select your difficulty level (normal, hard, or very hard) and have at it. You don’t need to tap the screen to fire because your ship is constantly shooting.
A cube will appear whenever you kill an enemy, and this serves as the in-game currency. Collect as many as you can because you’ll want the money to upgrade your weapons. Cargo containers will also show up at times with power ups. The best power-up you can get is an extra side gun.
You have the option of upgrading your weapons between each mission, but even at the default level you still have some awesome tricks. A Predator-like target will show ahead of your ship for the SMART Missile. Keep your target “locked on” an enemy (especially the big guys) and your ship automatically fires missiles for as long as you’re locked on. You also have a set amount of nukes that will clear all the on-screen baddies when you double tap the screen.
The graphics and gameplay are great. I used my iPad and found tilting to be too cumbersome, but you can switch back and forth between tilting or touch whenever you’d like.
There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the game, including its storyline mode and the help guide, but that’s only a nit-picky thing.
This game is definitely addictive, especially if you’re a fan of just blowing up anything in sight. You can either take or leave the storyline. In the end, this app is just fun.
