Make Your Own Masterful Cocktails With Your iPad
Speakeasy Cocktails: Learn from the Modern Mixologists ($9.99) by Open Air Publishing brings the secretive world of the speakeasy to your iPad.
With prohibition long gone done, you would think the need for speakeasies wouldn’t exist. However, the “neo-speakeasy” is a place where you can leave behind all of the modern day distractions and enjoy the guilty pleasure of concoctions that nearly went extinct during the Prohibition era.
This app’s interface and navigation are all as masterfully constructed as the cocktail recipes contained within. Selecting the chapter button shows a thumbnail of all 16 chapters. Selecting a chapter then reveals the subchapters, with the actual page to the side. Once you’ve selected where you’d like to go, the menu bar collapses, showing just the page.
The best part about the navigation is when you reach the end of a chapter. Too often with book apps, vigorously swiping through the pages can land you past the content you were looking for. At the last page of each chapter, you won’t move on unless you select a bar at the bottom, indicating the next chapter.
All of the elements inside this app take advantage of being on an iPad. Videos show you how to stir, shake, roll, and swizzle, as well as introduce you to two authentic speakeasy bartenders.

All the videos are short enough that they play without any waiting for buffering or fear of crashing the app. There is also a map showing different speakeasies throughout the world, along with how to get in them.
Whether you’re looking to make your own special cocktails or want to learn more about neo-speakeasies, this is the perfect app.
