WhatsNext Movies Plus ($1.99) by Messylyon.com is a movie resource app with information about many titles and actors, that also works with Netflix accounts.
WhatsNext Movies lets you search the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) for a movie or actor that you would like to know more about. Movie pages include general information such as the: release date, rating, budget, revenue, genre, director, and studio. There are also links to the: trailer, synopsis, cast, and additional information.
For actors and actresses, you can view a photo with biographical and acting data. You can add movies and actors to a favorites list that is accessible from the app’s home screen for quick viewing. A featured movies list includes highly anticipated films and recently released titles.
The app lets you add movies directly to your Netflix queue by tapping a button on a film’s information page. In order to do this, you need to go through an authorization process within WhatsNext Movies. You can then watch the queued movie using the Netflix app.
WhatsNext Movies Plus offers direct links to YouTube trailers and other easily accessible information. There are currently over 10,000 movies, actors, and actresses in the database, with more details in the app than Netflix shows when searching for a film. You can also share a movie or actor by tapping the Facebook share button.
While the app is somewhat useful, a plethora of technical errors makes it both unreliable and disposable. When searching for a movie the first time, the process usually goes well. However, when you clear the search bar and type a different name, the results overlap. If you had three results in the first search and one in the second, then you will still see the second and third results from your first search. The text showing what you searched for also overlaps.
When trying to access a search result, the app sometimes becomes unresponsive or crashes. On some film pages, a notification pops up containing a few lines of strange computer code. The biographical information for actors appears in HTML code and is more or less unreadable.
WhatsNext Movies Plus provides reliable information about the latest movies within an unreliable application. The design, interface, and images used are not very appealing. Several key problems and the fact that you can access all content available in the app with a free Internet search give WhatsNext Movies very little value.
