Quirky App Of The Day: Parents Shouldn't Text

August 21, 2011
Sometimes, you may wish stopping your parents from texting could be as easy as getting banned from Disney World after giving a security guard a wedgie. Personally, I felt like a little of my world had died when my mom sent me the text: "Just figured out how to text." Now, she sends my brothers and sisters mass chore assignments while she's at work. She also sends me instructions for family functions from a distance as well. I just found out today that I'm supposed to go to my grandmother's tomorrow for family dinner. I don't even get to pretend that my voice mail is on the fritz or that I haven't checked my email yet. A text message is just something that I can't really bluff my way out of. Parents Shouldn't Text reminds me that it could be so much worse. I thought that I had it rough. I thought that I was suffering now that my mom could send me little messages whenever she wanted. I am one of the luckier ones. I haven't had to explain that LOL means "laugh out loud" and not "lots of love" after she texts: "Grandma died this weekend LOL." Trying to decipher my mom's texts can be difficult, but she has never had an autocorrect mishap that made me want to gouge my eyes out. I would quote them, but they can be pretty explicit. Read through all the different text submissions that remind you that either your parents are just as bad as you thought they were, or your parents aren't nearly as bad as they could be. Either way, you should be able to come out of this app with a smile and some feelings of camaraderie from total strangers who also have parents who text. Parents Shouldn't Text is available on the App Store for the awesome price of FREE!
