Reader's Digest Officially Arrives On iPad
August 19, 2011
After offering readers a free preview issue since February, Reader's Digest is now officially available on the iPad on a monthly basis. Beginning with the September issue, existing U.S. print subscribers can get six months of free access to the publication's iPad edition. Non-subscribers can also get in on the fun by making a subscription purchase.
First launched in 1922, Reader's Digest is available on iPad for $1.99 per issue, or $14.99 per year through an in-app purchase. There are ten monthly issues.
For current subscribers, activating your iPad edition is as simple as entering your account number and zip code.
While it's nice seeing Reader's Digest finally arrive on the iPad, we question their "six month free trial." This is the first magazine we can think of that is putting a restriction on the number of issues current print subscribers can access via the tablet for free.
For example, Wired and The New Yorker include their electronic additions at no additional costs to subscribers. Perhaps Reader's Digest will have second thoughts about this limitation before it actually kicks in early next year.
You can download Reader's Digest now in the App Store.
