Tweetminster Combines Politics, News And The Occasional Scandal

August 1, 2011
Merging politics, news, and the occasional scandal, the Tweetminster app has arrived in the App Store. The app gathers today’s top news stories and then lets you know what others have to say about the subject across the blogosphere. The end result is an app that is refreshing, informative, and a little bit addictive. Created by Tweetminster Ltd, the free app is UK-centric, but that doesn’t mean others won’t find it enjoyable. If fact, we'd recommend it to anyone that enjoys following politics and current events. Using an aggregator, Tweetminster combines news content from websites, blogs, and social networks. In doing so, content is updated in real time. The app includes three sections: News, Live Feed, and Data. The News page includes Top Stories, plus those shared by MPs, Media, and Gov’t Departments. You can also customize the type of news you are getting by either deleting any of the previously mentioned topics or adding others. Topics that may be added to the News section include: Environment, Economy, Health, Europe, Education, Society, and World. You can also decide how many stories you’d like to see per section, from one to five. Keep in mind, you’ll have to hit the refresh button to actually see the most recent tweets. The app’s Live Feed section is where you’ll find the most recent tweets from politicians, civil servants, journalists and the like on the topics making news. From here, you can quickly reply to, or retweet each posting. Finally, Tweetminster’s Data section offers a list of the Top 10 most mentioned topics over the past 24 hours. Unfortunately, this section is of little value since it isn’t interactive. For example, “debt” is the post popular topic right now, but you cannot actually click on it to read why it’s important. The Tweetminster app features:
  • Top news stories of the moment aggregated from across the web and social networks
  • Customisable news page showcasing the top news stories from the web and social networks
  • Live Feeds of relevant Tweets from our expert networks
  • Post, reply and retweet with experts in the Tweetminster Live Feeds by logging into Twitter from within the app
  • Filter news stories and Tweets by topic
  • Analyse data around the most discussed trends from the past 24 hours
  • Data landscape mode presents these trends as a bar graph
  • Real-Time Sentiment Polling – be an influencer and make your opinion count
The free Tweetminster app is very good even as a Version 1.0 release. Hopefully it will get even better over time. If you like following news and politics, we're pretty confident you'll enjoy it.
