World Greets Word Of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" App With Big Thumbs-Up
August 12, 2011
Douglas Adams' seminal franchise, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, is all set to receive the proper app treatment. However, the upcoming title -- developed by Canadian studio Hothead Games -- is neither a game nor a book and actually seeks to recreate the series' headlining fictional almanac itself.
Unveiled in a post on VerticalWire, the app's primary goal is to create
an authentic experience, allowing fans to feel like they’re holding the device that Douglas Adams described over thirty years ago. Users can learn all about the importance of towels, vogons, Milliways, the Babel Fish, a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, how to survive in space, and more...For those purists concerned that this project might split from the traditional pomp and substance of Adams' work, Hothead Producer Joel DeYoung says of his team's efforts:
“We really focused on taking existing Guide entries and presenting them in a new, interactive way... We have so much respect for the original that we had to stay true to the style of Douglas Adams, and deliver an app that feels familiar to fans, but updated for today’s devices.”So far, that's all we (or anyone!) knows about the project. Still, for dedicated fans of the interstellar farce, excitement awaits just around the corner. Why not imbibe a nice Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster while you wait?
