Alleged iPhone 5 Screen Protector Suggests Larger Screen, New Home Button

September 15, 2011
Photos of an alleged iPhone 5 screen protector are making the rounds that suggest Apple’s new handset will have a larger display and new home button. MacRumors first spotted the photos, which were originally placed on Hong Kong’s Ukwire.hk website. Assuming the protector is “official,” it suggests the iPhone 5’s screen could be significantly bigger than the one on Apple’s iPhone 4. In addition, it looks like the iDevice’s front-facing camera and speaker are positioned closer to the top of the device. This could mean the new iPhone will include a thinner bezel around the display. Finally, the photos suggest the home button is slightly larger than the one on the iPhone 4. In fact, perhaps this means the home button on the iPhone will now be touch-sensitive, like previous rumors have indicated. Keep in mind, these photos could be unreliable and simply a design dreamed up by a third-party manufacturer with no knowledge of the iPhone 5's actual specifications. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5 this month or in October.
