Coming Soon: Atari Arcade Joystick Controller For iPad

September 6, 2011
For those who grew up begging our parents for an early allowance so we could purchase the latest game cartridge for our Atari Video Computer System, check out this new device that will bring back all those wonderful memories. Discovery Bay Games is launching a hardware device called Atari Arcade to make playing all of the games in the Atari’s Greatest Hits app more like the old times. The Atari Arcade has a joystick along with individual round buttons for various game controls. There are other similar devices available, such as the iCade, which looks more like a miniture arcade game cabinet, but the $100 cost is hefty. Hopefully this new Atari device will bring a lower price tag since it has a lower profile design. There is also the added bonus of portability. If you have not picked up any of the Atari games for your iPad yet, check them out in the App Store. The Atari’s Greatest Hits app allows for the purchase of individual games, or you can buy the entire 100 game set for $14.99. Check out AppAdvice’s complete review of the app. For those of us who find a sense of comfort in playing these low-resolution games that require a big imagination, this device is a perfect companion. Watch for the launch at your local Target, Walmart and Toys R Us store, or on the Discovery Bay Games website. I would be very happy with Santa if this little electronic device was under the tree on Christmas morning!
