Exclusive Look: Onmaway App For iPhone/iPod touch
September 15, 2011
AppAdvice is pleased to announce the arrival of the Onmaway app for iPhone, in this exclusive report. The $1.99 app is a simple way to automatically let other people know your location over time eliminating the dangerous need to text while driving.
Created by Ka Pow Interactive, LLC, Onmaway’s purpose is to help others track your movements, whether it be your spouse for 20 minutes or your social network for the length of a cross-country trip.
To get started, you send a link via the app to friends and family by text, email, and/or social media. This link offers a tracking page viewable from any web browser.
Once that first link is sent, subsequent messages can be sent updating everyone of your status. For example, taking a cross-country journey may require a message to friends and family every four hours. However, a short trip might only require two messages, at 15 minute intervals.
Although Onmaway certainly has a “Big Brother” feel to it, it really isn’t. After all, the owner of the iDevice is the one that initiates the tracking.
According to the developer, Jeff Ferguson, Onmaway was designed to help people avoid texting updates to friends and family while driving. Now, instead of taking your eye off the road to alert someone of your present location, the app does it for you.
Examples of uses include:
Tracking services isn’t a new phenomenon. For example, AT&T has allowed family members to track the movements of others in the household for a while now. However, these services typically include a monthly fee. Onmaway, on the other hand, costs just $1.99 with no monthly fees. As with most GPS-enabled apps, Onmaway can quickly drain your iPhone’s battery. Therefore, we recommend using a car charger during your journey. We’re sold on Onmaway and as such, the app comes highly recommended. Download it today in the App Store.
