FireCatch Will Push You To The Limits Of Your Abilities

September 15, 2011

FireCatch ($0.99) by Artie Entertainment is an arcade style game that will truly challenge your reflexes and reaction time. The Flash would have trouble getting a high score in this fast-paced escapade.

A volcano has erupted and friendly fireballs are falling from the sky, or possibly jumping from their 10-story high-rise. You must catch them before they drop into the lava below. The fireballs drop from the top of the screen, from an opaque tube, and they reappear near the lava at the bottom of the screen, giving you only milliseconds to tap and drag them to safety. You lose a life every time you tap the screen, but do not catch a fireball. You also lose a life if a good fireball drops into the lava. You only have three lives, so you need to have precise timing.

There are five different fireballs, each offering different point scores. There are good fireballs that give you points for saving them, but there are evil ones that will cost you points, too. The three additional fireballs will give bonuses, like extra lives or twice as many points.

This game is almost too difficult. Although the action does speed up as you progress, the starting pace is lightning fast, too. There is almost no time at all from when the fireball drops out of the tube before it drops into the lava, so your reaction time must be excellent if you want to survive. If you don’t have much patience, you may find yourself skipping this one for a more casual game.

Overall, this game is challenging and even borders on being too difficult. Gamers who like a challenge will love FireCatch. It will certainly test your abilities. It is available for only $0.99 in the App Store, but there is a lite version for those who want to see just how difficult it is before spending their pennies.
