Find A Little Adventure In The Big Little Quest
The Big Little Quest ($0.99) by ITL Business Ltd is an adventure RPG that takes you room by room in a quest to find your sister.
Your sister, Alice, was taken by an evil villain who has her held captive in his castle. It's your job to set out to find this castle and rescue her.
You start in your house where the other characters will speak gibberish to you, and the noise they make is quite irritating. You are then given a short tutorial on how to control your character.
Tap any of the four corners to move in that direction. If this doesn't suit you — because it is incredibly awkward — you can go into settings and choose a diagonal directional pad or a normal D-pad instead.
Tap twice and hold the second tap to jump in that direction. Swipe in a direction to shoot, or attack. Tapping three fingers pauses the game and will bring up your inventory, while four fingers will bring the tutorial back up if you so happen to forget any of this.
It takes a second to load a new area every time you enter one. I also found that the lack of any sort of map was a nuisance. There should be a map on the screen somewhere, because you can get lost somewhat easily. After wandering aimlessly for almost 20 minutes, in failed attempts to first find and recognize these dragons that I was supposed to kill, I was about to give up.
Finally, I found the flighty things and shot my fireball at them. Nothing. I tried to use the book in my inventory, but nothing happened. I kept shooting my magic flames, but there was no indication of my health or the health of those little green dragons. Maybe they weren't even the right dragons. Who knows.
This is where I gave up.
I did, however, manage to find a random monk who told me there was nothing to see here and that I should move on. Amusing, but not very helpful. I was pretty disappointed and confused by the time I quit playing.
I love little RPGs for iOS, but this one just seems a bit unfinished. It's a great little start, if you enjoy the isometric graphics and room by room gameplay, but it's still unpolished and very short.
The Big Little Quest is available in the App Store for the iPhone for $0.99.
