Create And Share Beautiful Digital Business Cards In CardFlick
CardFlick ($0.99) by kidBombay is an elegant way to share digital business cards on your iPhone.
In this day and age, it only makes sense that we use our smartphones to connect with each other, rather than still use dead tree business cards. Sure, there are already apps that do this, but none in a way that is as elegant as CardFlick.
Currently, you will have to have a Facebook account to use CardFlick. Hopefully in the future, the developers can implement their own log in system or other methods rather than just Facebook. But for now, this is the only way.
Once you log in through Facebook, your details will be pulled from your profile (if you had them there) and put onto a digital card. Your details can be edited via the Settings tab, should anything need to be deleted, changed, or added.
CardFlick cards will allow you to have a your photo, name, position, and company. More details include phone number, email, website, and tagline. Of course, all of these are optional – it really depends on what you want to share. These are your business cards, after all.
The next (and best) part is to pick a theme for your card. That’s where CardFlick really shines. If you go to the My Card tab, you’ll be able to view your card. The Themes button at the top left will allow you to skin your card with one of the 13 available designs.
The themes are my favorite part of CardFlick. They’re all gorgeous, and it’s definitely hard to stick to one. Good thing that changing the theme is so easy to do. Once you find the theme that fits you best, you can tap the button in the top right to expand your card to full screen. This is an elegant way to show your card to others, or just see how awesome your card is.
The fun of CardFlick doesn’t stop at creating your own beautiful card – there is a sharing aspect as well. The Flick tab is where you want to go if you want to share your new business card with other CardFlick users, or even just send it by email.
For sharing amongst other CardFlick users, it’s a rather fun and neat process. Simply flick your card towards the top quickly, and your card will then go to other devices that have CardFlick running. The recipient will get the option to accept or decline the card, and if they accept, the card will go to the Contacts tab.
The Contacts tab serves as a way to keep track of the cards you receive from others via CardFlick. You can view their details from here, and even add them to your device’s Contacts.
I’ve been following along with CardFlick on Twitter, and have been anticipating the release of this app for a while. I’m definitely not disappointed, but I do hope that there will be better ways to use the app than just by Facebook. Yes, Facebook has become a standard, in a way, but not everyone is on it (or deleted their account for whatever reasons). Also, I would love to see more themes be added in updates.
Yes, there are apps that share your contact information with others (e.g., Bump), but CardFlick is truly chic. You’re paying $0.99 for sophisticated and stylish digital business cards that are easy to share, rather than a couple of bucks for dead tree cards.
So give CardFlick a chance, and impress your friends and new contacts.
