Squish Monkeys, Snowmen, Zombies And More In Fruit Roll
Fruit Roll ($0.99) by Chillingo Ltd is an action packed side-scrolling iPhone game with simple, one touch controls. Yes, this app will follow in the footsteps of other similar apps like Tiny Wings, quickly climbing charts to claim a top spot on the App Store charts.
In this colorful, addictive game, you control a continually transforming fruit with special abilities, squishing and squashing enemies like worms, monkeys, snowmen, and zombies by rolling over them.
The goal is to pass through each level collecting stars and flattening enemies, both of which will increase your score. While rolling, you will come across a variety of different fruits, from star fruits and durians to lemons and grapes. Each fruit variant gives abilities, which are used to squish enemies.
For example, worms can only be squashed when you’re a lemon, and monkeys can only be destroyed when you’re a durian. If you try to squish a worm as a durian, it’s game over. So to get as far as possible down the path, you’ll have to quickly switch between various fruits to defeat enemies.
You can store up three different fruits, which are accessible on the side of the screen. Tapping a fruit will transform you and eat up the fruit, freeing you to collect more fruit. You will have to constantly change forms, which makes Fruit Roll fast paced and frantic.
When you have three fruits stored, any further fruit you collect will overwrite those, so make sure to avoid collecting fruit that you don’t need during the level. You can avoid excess fruit and enemies by jumping, which you’ll also need to collect stars.
Jumping is done by tapping the screen once, and a double jump can be achieved by tapping twice in quick succession. Gathering three fruits of the same type in a row will turn you into a super fruit, allowing you to steam roll over every enemy for a short amount of time.
As the game progresses, the pace picks up and different enemies are introduced, such as the flying purple squirrel. Learning the different abilities in Fruit Roll is an easy task, but successfully switching between fruits and acquiring the maximum number of kills and stars will take practice and skill.

You may be replaying the first few levels over and over again, but since the backgrounds, enemy placement, and stars are randomly generated, the game never gets boring.
I love infinite runner games like Fruit Roll because they’re easy to pick up and play for a few minutes at a time. Fruit Roll’s colorful, crisp graphics and constantly changing gameplay make for a a fun game that’s perfect for all ages. At just $0.99, this future App Store hit is a great deal.
