Report Environmental Crimes With The Green Gumshoe
The Green Gumshoe (Free) by Ellipse Web Productions invites you to report any environmental infraction you happen to notice.
Sometimes if you stop to enjoy the scenery, you may not like what you see. Say, perhaps, you spot some dead fish washed up on a bank. Or maybe there's a foul stench emanating from an unidentifiable liquid. Chances are something's afoot.
Environmental crimes can be spotted if you look close enough. That's where this app comes in.
The app's main feature is the ability to send in a notification of an environmental crime to your nearest environmental agency (sorry, but this is a U.S. only app). You can attach a picture, add detailed information, and even use your GPS to mark the location. Some states have less hip agencies, meaning you'll need to call them.
The privacy policy at the bottom states that the developer will send the email to the selected agency, and copy you on the message. The developers would like to plot reported incidents on a map, and promise to keep your provided information confidential. If this goes beyond your comfort zone, you can always call to report a crime.
Not sure what exactly constitutes an environmental crime? The app's secondary feature is the environmental crime FAQ. This page lists everything from barrels being dumped into sewers to companies bypassing wastewater management. Graphics are included to help illustrate the point, such as what filmy water would look like.
Whether you are diligently seeking out infractions, or never knew what to do to report one, this app is for you.
Go get 'em, gumshoes!
