Hey! Come Check Out This Spot!
This Spot (Free) by Beetlefarm, LLC is a simple weather and location app for the iPhone. Although basically a weather app, This Spot also uses Instagram and Flickr APIs to bring you photos taken in your current location.
When you open the app, you are asked to allow the app to access your current location. The temperature and conditions of your current location will be front and center. To view a bit more detailed information — only today and tomorrow's highs and lows — tap the circle with the temperature in it.
In the background, on the main screen, will be three photos taken near your location, as well. Tap to view each full sized photo or refresh the screen by tapping the refresh icon in the bottom left corner. This will update both the weather conditions and change the photos if there are more from the area.
Below the map on the main screen, there are three faces: ranging from sad to happy. Tap one, describing your mood, and you will be able to record your mood and view how you were feeling in each location you visited. It will also show you how many times you felt a certain way, along with where (viewable on the map).
You can share where you are with Facebook or email a link to a friend to tell them about a certain spot you found that you love.
This app does what it says: provides you with current weather conditions in a minimal way. It will always keep you up to date on, not only the weather, but also present you with a fresh backdrop of beautiful and relevant (to your location, at least) photographs. Also, I really like the icon; I'm a sucker for a nice icon.
This Spot is in the App Store for free. If you would like to play around with this location-based app, or would just like a different — and very minimal — weather app, go ahead and give it a try.
