The Kindle Fire Gets Ready For Its Closeup

September 27, 2011
Amazon is expected to unveil its new Kindle tablet device tomorrow at a press conference at 10 a.m. EDT. The so-called “Kindle Fire” will include a modified version of Android and retail for under $300, according to TechCrunch. First rumored earlier this year, the Fire tablet could very well be the iPad’s first real competitor after many pretenders have come and gone in recent months. Based on numerous media reports, the 7” Kindle Fire should include:
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Customized Amazon edition
  • Powered by a Texas Instruments dual-core OMAP processor
  • Form factor will resemble the BlackBerry Playbook
  • Will rely heavily on Amazon’s MP3 service and Kindle bookstore
  • Priced anywhere between $250 and $300
The Amazon event will be held tomorrow, September 28. AppAdvice will provide a complete rundown on the so-called "iPad-killer" following the Amazon announcement.
