Fight Off Enemy Pirates For Your Share Of Galactic Booty

October 21, 2011

Galaxy Pirate Adventure ($4.99) by Sunfish Studio Limited is a space-themed, roleplaying game where you are the son of a pirate king, sent to plunder goods from your enemies. Command your team of ships across the universe in search of galactic booty.

Your job as head of a small fleet of transporters is to find gold and other treasures by mining, helping other pirates, and attacking enemy ships as they come into view. As you earn gold, you can spend it on ship upgrades, like shields and weapons. The better your spacecraft, the more often you will win in battle.

The game mechanics are plot driven. You can move about in space, but not too much. You are confined to areas where you will encounter battles or missions. When you are attacked, or see an enemy ship approach, the battle begins and you are locked into it unless you run away. The battles themselves are fairly simple, but can get complicated as you increase your weapons and shield powers. Each time you deploy a weapon or put up your shield, energy is spent. Energy quickly runs out as you attack with and defend your ship, so you have to learn to move out of range in order to recharge and then come back in to fight.

The imagery in this game is absolutely stunning. The three-dimensional rendering of spacecraft, planets and docking ports is something to behold. The level and quality of detail is quite extraordinary. The gameplay is deeply involving, but not complicated. Although it is heavily plot driven, in my opinion Galaxy Pirate Adventure plays a bit like a casual game.

Overall, this universal game is both stunning to look at and fun to play. It has extremely involving role play aspects, but the simplistic mechanics of a casual game. It is a bit overpriced at $4.99, but the spectacular graphics almost make it worth the price. If you are looking for a new adventure, check out Galaxy Pirate Adventure in the App Store.
