Kevin Rose Of Milk Walks Us Through Oink

October 20, 2011
Kevin Rose has had a very successful career thus far. The thing is, he is only 34 years old. At this point Rose has founded Digg, Revision3, Pownce, and has been a production assistant and co-host on the now defunct TechTV. Most people would say okay, I will just sit on my money and live life. Not Mr. Rose, who in early 2011 founded Milk, a mobile application company. Recently he took the stage at the Web 2.0 Summit held in San Francisco to talk a bit about Milk's first app, Oink. Oink is a platform to rank, compare, share, and discover things, not places. The "things" being what makes Oink different from the location ranking apps available. Take Google Maps or Yelp, for example, they may get you to the place you want to go based on user reviews, but how do you know what that place does best? Oink takes the necessary steps to find that out for you. You can simply type in "Where can I find the best ____?" It can be anything, and their ranking by place or tag is based on how your friends and others have ranked what you're searching for (love it, great, so-so, or I don't like it at all). Say you want a great slice of pizza, so you go to your favorite pizza place. Using Oink not only can you see what has been ranked as the best dish there but where it ranks in the pizza tag within one mile or globally. In a few weeks Oink will be opening things up in beta form for people to start ranking things. For more information on Oink you can follow them on Twitter, watch the video embedded below and take a look at our gallery. [gallery link="file" columns="4" orderby="ID"]
