Looking For A Last Minute Costume? Check Out This Spooky Idea Using Two iOS Devices
October 31, 2011
Looking for a clever way to freak out the neighborhood kids this evening? If you own two or more iOS devices you are in luck. This costume is simple enough to put together last minute and it is sure to have a “spooktacular” effect!
Begin by taking an old shirt, which you no longer care about. White or a light color will work the best. Cut a hole in the front and the back of the shirt, about the size of the screen on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Make sure the holes are lined up with each other. Grab some red paint or markers and smear it around the opening of the hole.
Once the shirt has dried, use duct tape to secure your iOS device inside the shirt, with the screen side facing out behind each hole. Your camera will need to be visible and not covered by the shirt.
The last thing you will need is an Internet connection. Connect your devices with one another using FaceTime chat and check out the cool illusion! It will appear you have a hole blown right through your body. If you have a mobile hotspot, imagine the looks you will get while walking around the neighborhood!
According to Gizmodo, NASA engineer, Mark Rober, created this clever idea. Rober is a Mechanical Engineer for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Besides creating really cool Halloween costumes, he has worked on the most recent Mars Rover, which will launch around Thanksgiving.
Check out the video (below) to see how it works. Rober used two iPads, but any iOS device with FaceTime should work, it will just vary the size of your hole. Pretty slick idea, huh? Thanks Mark!
