No Need To Wait For The Sunday Paper, Get Your Crossword Puzzle Fix Today

October 8, 2011

Mail on Sunday Crossword (Free) by Associated Northcliffe Digital Limited is a crossword puzzle game that is based on ones you might solve in the Sunday newspaper. Three puzzles are free, but you can buy more for $0.99 for a 10 pack or $3.99 for a 50 pack.

The app is laid out simply. There are no flashy distractions, just the grid, the clues and a few minor features to help you solve the puzzle. On the left side of the grid are the across clues. On the right side are the down clues. There are 24 clues for each puzzle. Most are single word clues, which can make the puzzle very difficult to solve. There are hints that can be used, but you will incur penalty points for using them. You can uncover a single letter in a word, see which letters have been placed incorrectly or reveal the entire word. You have the option of filling in the grid with either a pencil or a pen. The pencil feature allows you to erase mistakes, but you can also delete letters after they have been placed, whether they are in pencil or pen.

If you like the three crossword games that come free with the app, you can download additional puzzles very inexpensively. There are nine 10 packs and four 50 packs. They can be purchased, installed and updated right from within the app.

Overall, this universal app is a great way to play a few crossword puzzles for free. It gives you the opportunity to see if you like these particular versions. If so, you can download many more for pennies each. At $0.99 per 10 pack, you are paying just $0.10 per puzzle. Pick it up now in the App Store.
