Run Your Own School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry In Camp Magic
Camp Magic (Free) by Moga Studios turns you into the headmaster of a school for witches and wizards. Aside from the obvious Harry Potter influence, this app is also reminiscent of other sim games, especially DragonVale and We Rule.
You start with your main castle on a plot of land with a magical border. A plucky young witch will guide you through the steps of adding buildings, enrolling students, and putting them to work.
You'll need to add classrooms and other buildings in order to increase your resources. Visit other headmasters or share your progress through Facebook and Twitter.
So what's the catch for it being a free app? The tutorial takes you through the required actions to establish your school. Once you're taken to a good stopping point, though, you are required to create an account or your progress will not be saved and you basically max out at the stopping point.
You can either create an account or use your Game Center credentials. I really didn't like how the account creation wasn't done up front, though. There's just something sneaky about it.
The graphics for this game look mostly like GIF animations. My main complaint though, is how tiny everything looks. You can pinch to zoom in a little closer, but it hardly makes a difference. This is especially true when you select the different buildings to see their information. The words are in such a small font and the buttons are miniature (and that is with me using the iPad).
Camp Magic is hardly unique. The tutorial feels like a game of "click-this-then-do-this," and the graphics do little to capture the imagination. There are plenty of other sim games out there, with better gameplay, and a less tedious take on a world of magic.
