Play Tetris By Drawing The Shapes In CubiQ
CubiQ ($0.99) by Sebastien Jesionka is a very simple and creative game for the iPhone. It is similar to Tetris, but a bit more innovative; this arcade puzzler is a true delight.
You are given the option of a tutorial when you first play. This just goes over the basics and allows you to get a feel for what you're doing. This game is very easy to pick up and play, but you won't want to put it down.
You start with two blocks at the top of the screen. Just draw one of them onto the grid, anywhere, and it will appear. If you draw the wrong shape, it will give you an error sound. Draw too many of the wrong shapes, and you'll get a cement block on the grid.
No worrying about sliding the Tetris-like pieces into place; if you can draw it on the grid, and it fits, you're in business. And if you aren't happy with the blocks you're given, tap one of them to replace it with a new one.
The goal is to build rectangles with the blocks, within the grid, and get the highest score before your time runs out. Once you create a block, it turns gray. You can tap it to make it disappear and score points, or continue to add to it and get even more points. The bigger the rectangle, the higher your score.
Each time you complete a block (or rectangle), your time is extended. So, the longer you play, the faster you'll want to create and get rid of the gray blocks.
You will eventually get multiplier bonuses, which are represented by a number on the block. Once you create a big block, collecting the points, the multiplier will stay active for a limited time. This is shown by a number in the left of the screen. It will slowly disappear unless you continue to create blocks and collect their points.
The sounds and graphics, though minimal, are very sleek and certainly complement the game perfectly. I do wish, however, that there were some sort of background music (there are only game sounds).
CubiQ is available for the iPhone in the App Store for only $0.99. It also has Game Center support with leaderboards, so that you can see how you stack up against other CubiQ-ers.
