Get The iOS Game Based On The New Motion Picture, In Time
IN TIME - The Game ($0.99) by Fox Mobile Entertainment, Inc. is the iOS action game based on the movie "In Time," starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, that will be out in theaters tomorrow. The basis of the film is that, in the future, time becomes currency. If you don't have any time, you die.
There are two different gameplay modes. Story mode helps you learn the ropes and will give you a little tutorial the first time through. Once you progress through the levels in story mode, you also unlock levels for the quick play mode.
You consistently run forward without having to do anything, but to navigate through the levels, just tilt your iDevice to move left or right. I ran into walls and buildings repeatedly as I would try to turn around, so be sure to control the character wisely.
The other controls on the screen are dodge and jump. You will need to jump over any obstructions in your way and dodge incoming attacks from the Minutemen.
The Minutemen are essentially time thieves. When avoiding them, you must dodge at just the right moment or they will take away your time. My first time playing the level with the Minutemen, I failed multiple times because I couldn't time it right. So, be sure to hit one of the dodge buttons in the correct direction before they get to you, or as they're running up to you. Don't wait until they're too close or they'll steal your time anyway.
If the time keepers catch up to you, they end the game. Though they will be chasing you throughout the game, as you pick up time capsules you sprint faster and faster, so you can escape. It's not difficult to outrun them, but be careful not to run into any obstacles as they will slow you down immensely.
Along the way, in addition to collecting the time capsules, there will be citizens that you can run through to give them some of your time. Although citizens cost you time, they add to your score multiplier, so you'll want to save as many as possible. But be sure to check your body clock before assisting a citizen as you don't want to run out of time yourself. If you save three citizens consecutively, you'll activate hero blocks which will help your score and add a multiplier.
To master the game just be sure to jump over barriers, dodge the Minutemen, activate the hero blocks, and collect time capsules. There are quite a few things to remember to watch out for and do while you're running through the levels. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the intensity of it makes it that much more enjoyable.
I did have one minor issue with the game, though. Every time you start a level, or have to restart because you failed, it shows the loading screen with game information on it for about four seconds. This makes the game seem like it's going slowly and it gets pretty irritating. When I fail a level, I want to replay it immediately, not have to wait around for it to load. This should only show up the first time or two, not every time.
In Time — The Game is currently in the App Store for only $0.99. But on Friday it will be free, for one day only, in celebration of the movie's release. It has full Game Center support with many achievements to keep you busy. I would definitely snag this one on Friday, folks!
I also plan on seeing the movie; it looks interesting and action-packed. Will you be seeing it? Let us know in the comments!
