Gobble Up Food And Watch Out For Chainsaws In Picnic Mayhem
Picnic Mayhem ($0.99) by VariaMedia GmbH is a casual arcade game featuring cute, cuddly little bears with an insatiable appetite and a taste for junk food. The Everhungries, a result of a cruel World War II experiment, have invaded Mount Sauerkraut to gorge on an endless supply of food.
The controls in Picnic Mayhem are pretty simple. You control two bears, one on the left side of the screen and one on the right side. The goal is to eat everything in sight, minus fruit and bombs. To eat, you need to jump. Tapping causes a bear to jump, and a double tap will execute an extra high jump. Paying attention to both of your characters is a key to success in this game.
Eating a bomb will cause your bear to explode, spraying blood and guts everywhere. In addition to gobbling up food, which increases your score, you also have to avoid flying chainsaws, which again, will cut your bear to bloody pieces. Eating a piece of fruit doesn’t have terrible consequences, but it will cause you to lose several hundred points.
At times, coins will fly across the screen, and scarfing up five of them will let you access a bonus level where you can pig out for 15 seconds to earn more points.
There’s only one continuous level to this game, so losing means you restart from the beginning to try to beat your highest score over and over again. Your score is tracked through integration with Game Center, so you can compete with your friends for the title of number one muncher.
This game is surprisingly fun, thanks to cute characters and graphics that look great. There’s quite a bit of violence involved, and it reminded me of the Happy Tree Friends.
Currently Picnic Mayhem only has a single mode, which means that it gets boring after awhile, but it’s fun to pick up and play in short bursts. If you’re looking for a quality arcade game with lots of action, Picnic Mayhem is a great choice.
