Help PoPo The Panda Collect Ice And Roll In The Hole
Roll in the Hole HD ($2.99) by Chillingo Ltd is similar to games like Cut the Rope and Contre Jour, but has a bit of a new concept. This action puzzler will keep you entertained for a few minutes, or for hours. The graphics are bright and crisp, and the sounds are cute and charming; the aesthetics will really pull you into the game world.
Meet PoPo the panda. This is the star of the game. PoPo will go up against Uggi the gorilla and Zappi the alien as he rolls his way through challenging levels and new worlds, avoiding these enemies and other obstacles.
To control PoPo, tap the corresponding side of the screen to make the him roll right or left. You must be pretty precise with the controls; if you roll too quickly or too far in one direction, you could fall off of the platforms.
The goal is to collect all of the "ice," which are colorful and tasty frozen treats, without falling off of the platforms. Maneuver PoPo — who is just a big ball of roly-poly fun — and carefully make it to the portal at the end to complete the level and unlock the next.
PoPo will run into many obstacles, trying to to hinder his ice-snatching, along the way. From rocks to ice to aliens — and not to mention Uggi the thieving gorilla — be careful of what you may encounter. However, there are things that help you along the way, too: like trampolines to bounce off of and swings to bring you where you need to go to reach the next platform (and, in the end, the portal).
Your score depends on how many pieces of ice you get, how fast you go, and how long it takes you to complete each level. So, make sure to not only be precise, but be quick.
There are three unique worlds for you to explore and conquer as well as 72 different levels. Follow PoPo from the jungle, all the way to outer space! You must collect 40 pieces of ice to unlock the second world, and 80 total to unlock the third world, though. It sounds like even more worlds are in the works, too, so stay tuned!
This game is easy to play, and continues to become even more of a challenge as you advance through the levels. In other words, you will not get bored. My only qualm is the name — I think they could have done better than that, don't you? I would have been happier with something more creative like Panda Labyrinth or Panda Popsicle Quest. Something.
Roll in the Hole is available in the App Store for both the iPhone and the iPad. There is a universal app for $2.99, or you can go the less expensive route and just purchase it for the iPhone for only $0.99.
