Run For Your Life In The Fast-Paced Zombie Shooter, Zombie Shock Again
Zombie Shock Again (Free) by BLUE WIND is the free version of the Zombie Shock series for the iPhone. It's an action game in which, you guessed it, you're being chased by zombies.
The "fear virus" infects New York and Abel is trying to make his way through the city streets, hospital gown and all, to JFK airport to escape the zombies. Why is Abel wearing nothing but a hospital gown? Well, it seems he was kind of crazy and escaped from the mental hospital this way. You'll hear his maniacal cackles all throughout the game — even over the heavy metal tunes serenading your run through the streets.
Control Abel by moving the joystick on the bottom left corner of the screen. It may seem like you want to stay close to the right side of the screen, as the zombies will appear on the left and chase after you — some faster than others — but you are still able to move all around the screen. Just position yourself wherever you can get the most headshots in.
On the lower right part of the screen you have your shooting button. Luckily, it seems you automatically have laser sights on your weapons, so just aim the red laser at a zombies head and — SPLAT! — you're in business. No, literally, you are in business because each zombie you kill gives you money.
The money is used to upgrade and purchase new weapons in the store. Shotguns, automatics, and even a crossbow are among the tools you can buy to aid you in your escape. You will even be able to upgrade your stats.
There are two modes: story mode and survival mode. In story mode, you progress through levels killing the many unique types of zombies that come after you, including some boss zombies. There are even cut scenes with comics explaining more of the story as you go.
Survival mode, on the other hand, consists of seeing how long you can last when up against endless hordes of zombies. However, this mode can only be unlocked after you've completed a decent amount of story mode.
Zombie Shock Again comes with Game Center support. It's in the App Store for free which, unfortunately, means ads. The ads are more intrusive then I would like. I know it's free, but they can get a bit annoying. If you want the ad free version, you'll have to spend $1.99. However, the ad free version doesn't seem to have Game Center support (if that matters to you). Though, I'm not sure why.
The game is fast-paced and action packed; the upgrades in stats and weaponry come quickly and keep you coming back for more. The graphics are well done, too. If you're looking to try a free, and fun, zombie shooter — and you don't mind the ads — Zombie Shock Again is a good start.
