Slash Zombie Heads Instead Of Fruit In ZombieSlide

October 20, 2011

ZombieSlide ($0.99) by PigTail Games is an action arcade game where you destroy zombies by slicing, dicing, and whacking them into oblivion.

Zombie heads will fly up onto the screen and you must chop them up before they fall down. But three strikes and you're out — does this sound familiar?

Besides the unique ability to wield different types of weapons (machete, guns, and even a bow), there isn't much creative gameplay here. They have, however, introduced a new game mode called "Whack A Zombie." This mode is, you guessed it, a bit like playing "Whac-A-Mole." But just as in the regular mode, don't whack the spray cans as they will explode in your face and cause you to die instantly.

The game graphics leave much to be desired, and there are not enough interesting game modes to keep you entertained for very long.

All of that said: I don't take too kindly to games that rip off of other games, even if they admit to it. And this one is no exception. Although I love zombies, and zombie games, I was very disappointed to see that this particular game not only took inspiration from Fruit Ninja, but ripped the game mechanics off almost entirely.

However, as Fruit Ninja has more game modes and is much more well done visually and musically, I guess I can't say it's a complete rip off. It's not as satisfying as slashing the fruits either, as the zombie heads don't gush as much as that yummy produce does.

If you want a game like this, I suggest spending your money on Fruit Ninja — not any copies or rip offs. But, on the other hand, if you're a zombie fanatic, or just want something in the Halloween spirit, you can give ZombieSlide a try.

I just don't suggest paying for it unless it goes on sale. It is currently available on the iPhone only for $0.99 in the App Store.
