Redefine The Way You Browse The Internet

October 19, 2011

Mammoth4 Internet Browser ($1.99) by HUGEHARD.WEIP-Peak is a gesture-based Web browser that uses touch recognition to fit you specifically. This highly complex Internet viewer will redefine the way you use the Web.

There is a multi-step instruction guide to help you get started with Mammoth4. That is how complex it is. The first thing you will do is tap the screen so that the app recognizes the size of your fingertips. Then you will select which hand you normally hold your device with. The instruction guide will inform you of all the ways that touch gesturing is used in this browser. There is a small tab at the bottom of the screen where you can tap to go forward or backward one page, swipe to see current tabs or view all tabs at once and either reload or close them. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Mammoth4 has so many features it will make your head spin.

Each Web page comes with a list of options that includes: search for a specific word or phrase, private browsing, a page translator, bookmark views, a history section, a read it later section, AirPrint integration, a related websites search option, social network article sharing and an image search. When viewing your recent browsing history, you can see it as a visual timeline, similar to Apple’s Time Machine design. Articles can be sent to Twitter to easily share with your friends. All pages can be marked for later reading. You can bookmark any website and add it to your own specialized folder.

Mammoth Internet Browser is not new, but Mammoth4 Internet Browser is completely redesigned for iOS 5, and it is not compatible with anything less that version.

I haven’t even begun to understand all of the features that come with this Web browser, but I know I love it. It is completely different from any other mobile browser I have used before, but is complicated to understand at first, and can seem daunting. For example, figuring out how to add websites to the bookmark folder took me at least 10 tries. But, as you spend time with it, things will begin to make sense and you will find that it is very intuitive. The instruction guide can always be called back up if you need help understanding any of the features.

Overall, this app is brilliantly designed and a fresh, new way to browse the Internet. Considering that there are plenty of free Web browsers available, it seems pricey at $1.99, but it is more than just a simple way to surf the Net. If you are looking for a complex and feature-rich Web browser, this one is for you. If you just want to find the lunch menu of your favorite restaurant, Mammoth4 may be a little too rich for your blood.
