Steambirds: Survival Flies Into The App Store For Free
October 13, 2011
Spry Fox and Halfbrick, the studio behind Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, have teamed up to bring you Steambirds: Survival for iPhone and iPad, a sequel to the hit turn-based aerial combat game originally released as a Flash game.
Steambirds: Survival is a strategic turn-based game set in a steampunk-style war-torn Europe. In the game you play as an elite Allied pilot, and your goal is to withstand the endless waves of Axis aircraft in order to allow the citizens below enough time to evacuate before the armada wipes out their homes.
Before each mission you're able to build up your defenses by spending your hard earned cash on new recruits, or you can save your cash to purchase a better aircraft for yourself and just see how you fare with your default entourage.
During each of your turns you'll have the chance to maneuver your aircraft into firing position while deploying a power-up or repairing your aircraft. You have a limited amount of power-ups and health packs, however, so you'll want to use them wisely. After you have made your choice, just hit the "End Turn" button and wait to see what your opponent does.
Each of the eight unique aircraft in Steambirds: Survival has its own strengths and weaknesses, so you must utilize them to the best of your ability in order to survive. The game also includes a total of 64 missions to burn through, and Game Center integration. An additional seven aircraft and 56 missions will be making their way into the game via a free update in the near future.
Steambirds: Survival is a freemium game available for both iPhone and iPad. It does contain some rather obtrusive ads, but those can be removed for $2.99 via in-app purchase. That same $2.99 purchase will also allow you to play all of the cities in the game without having to unlock them.
