Track Your Fitness Progress On Your iPhone With Garmin

October 26, 2011
Garmin, the maker of some of the best GPS devices around has introduced a way to track your fitness progress and goals with their latest app, Garmin Fit. This $0.99 download from the App Store will track your walking, running or cycling. You can also sync your data with Garmin Connect, an online portal where you can follow your progress. The app will track your current speed, how far you have gone, the number of calories burned and it will show a map of your route traveled. You can pull up the history of your exercise as well, so you can look back on your previous routines. If you want to step it up a notch, Garmin has also just announced the $50 Garmin ANT+ for iPhone, which plugs into the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad dock connector. This, along with other Garmin sensors, will track your progress even further. The other optional Garmin sensors include a heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor for cycling, and a foot pod to track distance and pace data for indoor training.

Each one of these accessories is available on the Garmin website, and cost around $60 to $70 each (Amazon seems to have some better prices). Many of these sensors work with other Garmin products as well, but the whole set up could cost you around $250, if you want to track everything. If you just want a heart rate monitor and the ANT+, the full retail price is around $120. This is a very competitive price compared to other good quality heart rate monitors on the market. Plus, it utilizes the iOS technology that we already know and trust. However, for only $0.99, you can pick up the Garmin Fit app that will start you off on the right foot when it comes to tracking your fitness. You can decide later if all those other accessories would be helpful. If you have used other Garmin fitness products, let us know how they have worked for you.
