Bird's the Word HD ($2.99) by SGN is an iPad-only word puzzle game that is not unlike Boggle. Using a grid of letters, you earn points by creating words. This game also has additional challenges to keep you on your toes and offers Facebook integration for social gaming.
The goal of the game is to create words out of a random set of letters that appear on a grid. You don’t have to make words out of connecting letters, but it helps. You can use any letter on the grid, but if it is not positioned next to another one that you are using, you lose that spot. The letter will disappear and in its place will fly a sneaky little bird. The more birds on your grid, the harder it is to create new words. Each level is timed and you must reach a certain point score within that given amount of time. As you earn more points, you unlock additional birds to fill your empty letter spots.
There are three different modes, Classic, Timed and Word Worm. In Classic mode, you must collect enough points within a given time period in order to move on. In Timed mode, create as many words as you can within a specific amount of time. There are no levels. Just earn as many points as possible. In Word Worm, the last letter of each word starts the next one. For example, if you created, “hand” then the next word you make must start with the letter D. You can also play all three of the modes against Facebook friends by challenging them; the one with the most points wins.
Overall, this iPad-only game is extremely fun and easy to play. The challenge is in using letters that are side by side. The birds start to add up if you use lonely letters and that makes the game harder to beat. The price is more than reasonable at only $0.99. Pick it up in the App Store today.
