Tweet And Update Your Facebook Status From Siri

Tweet And Update Your Facebook Status From Siri

October 20, 2011
Whether you need to get directions, respond to a text message, set a reminder, check the weather, find a bar, or hide a body, Siri is there to help. However, despite everything Siri can do, there's one big thing it can't: tweet. Twitter's iOS 5 integration was a major update to iOS, allowing you to tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, and Maps. It only makes sense that Siri would also be a tweet-friendly feature, but sadly, that isn't the case. While directly tweeting from Siri isn't currently possible, I'll show you the next best thing. Twitter gives you the option to send tweets via SMS. First, access your Twitter account online and go to Settings, where you'll find your mobile settings. From there, Twitter will ask for your mobile number, then have you send a generated message to a provided short code. Now, you're free to text to tweet once Twitter confirms your phone number! Be sure to turn off any SMS notification settings that you don't need on the Twitter website. Seeing as Siri can send text messages to your contacts, the next step would be to create a new contact called "Twitter" (or anything, really), and use the short code from Twitter as the contact number. Once all that is done, just call up Siri, say "text Twitter," followed by what you'd like to tweet (tip: you can say, "number sign" to create hashtags).

Alternatively, this same method also allows you to update your Facebook status using Siri. Just be sure to go to Facebook's mobile settings page, and follow the simple set-up instructions. Once you've finished, just create a contact for Facebook with their short code as the contact number and you're good to go. For now, this seems to be the only way to send tweets from Siri. Hopefully Apple will include Twitter integration with Siri in the future. If you found this guide helpful, be sure to let us know in the comments.
